BACK INTO THE SWING OF THINGS

We're home from Tahoe. We stopped in El Dorado Hills yesterday to watch some of the Tour of California. The Peanut really enjoyed that although I think the highlight was the police escort and their blinking lights versus the bikes and riders themselves.

After unloading when we got home, I went for a 6 mile run. While in Tahoe I had stopped at the Adidas Outlet and scored a pair of shorts for $4 and some running socks. The deals lately on running clothing have been outstanding. I wore my new socks on my run and even though I am a Drymax fan through and through, I have to say, these cheapo socks were pretty nice.

Also while in Tahoe I started contemplating the Tahoe Half Marathon. I have done it before and it is a gorgeous run. As soon as the thought ran through my mind I thought, "well gee, why don't I just run the full instead?" Vans was not as optimistic about me running the full vs the half. However, that race happens in September and we'll already be in Tahoe for our week long annual vacation. Makes perfect sense right? I have been itching to get back to doing a few road races and runs. Maybe that lies in the fact that whenever I do a trail run I spend the next few days scratching from various grass allergies or possibly poison oak exposures.

Either way, time to get back into the swing of things since I have the Western States Training Run in two weeks. 32 miles of killer, yet amazing trails. From the looks of it, we'll be starting that run in snow and ending in some serious warm temps.

Today looks like rain, thus my lunch time run will most likely not happen. Not that I am afraid of rain but I woke up with a sore throat, a cough and some icky stuff. Hard to tell if it is allergy related or a result of the mountaineous snot oozing out of all the kids from this weekend's getaway.

There is no trail race this Thursday but the Peanut, Vans and myself are all signed up for the Veggie Chase this Sunday. Vans and myself in the 5K and the Peanut in the 40 yard tot dash which really means that I am doing 40 yards plus a 5K while pushing a 30lb toddler in a stroller. I did say I was eager to get back into road running right?
