I do have some exciting news to share but first a recap of what has happened in about a week. Vans had his final mountain bike race and then had his mountain bike race awards. He ended up winning fourth in his age division which is two places up from where he was last year. He missed being on the podium by only a few points.
Sarcasm and Vans post race
Sarcasm actually took third place in his age division. Vans also didn't win anything for attending all the races (much to his disappointment). The whole raffle thing was kind of a joke to be honest. Maybe next year he will place and win the attendance award. Either way, next year he will have three girls cheering him on instead of his usual two!
It was a hot day! Next year I'll have two girls in my arms.
Other than attending mountain biking events, we've been doing a lot of swimming at our house. We have had a few friends over to swim. Our pool is quite warm despite the rainy weather (yes, rainy!) we had last week.
In other exciting news ... I have done some running!!! Nothing too exciting. It started with a 10 minute run on Saturday. I had attempted running a week earlier, just a few steps here and there but it did not feel quite right yet. On Saturday I ran for 10 minutes through our hilly neighborhood. On Sunday I went for a 3 mile walk and also incorporated some running here and there. So far so good although I am tired. I will be taking the next few days off but it does make me happy to see that running is hopefully in my near future. My post-partum doctor visit is next week (4 weeks post-baby) so I will be curious to see where I stand. I also went swimming for the first time despite doctor's orders to wait four weeks. I can't say it felt great and I will probably wait it out another week or so before going back into the pool.
Finally, we had our first marshmallow roast at our house. The benefit of having a pool that gets a lot of sun is that it tires out a certain three year old quite easily. The downfall is that sometimes she falls asleep a bit too early (like at 5:00 pm) ... which means she'll be up later in the evening. On one of these occasions, we busted out our fire pit and decided to roast some marshmallows!
firepit!
Trailbaby was 3 weeks yesterday and has her "two week" appointment tomorrow. I am curious to see how her stats have changed. I can tell she has gained weight as her newborn clothes are starting to get a bit snug. However, I have discovered that when I eat dairy (which is minimal since I am lactose intolerant) she has troubles. Therefore I am attempting to eliminate all dairy from my diet. The only dairy I consumed really was my daily Greek yogurt which I will miss terribly but even I feel better when I don't eat any dairy. This may be the kick start my diet needed anyway as I do have to start getting back on track with eating better. The pregnancy is over, no more indulgences!
I also came up with a nickname for Trailbaby. It isn't what anyone else would have predicted but it something, a trait, I have noticed with her. I will have to post about it separately though when I have more Trailbaby photos to share ... we've been slacking in the photo department although we did succeed in doing our baby announcements before her six week birthday ... which was sadly the case with the Peanut's announcement after she was born.
I hope everyone is having a safe and happy Fourth of July!
